How much is a personal trainer in Seattle?
This is a common question for anyone in the market for a personal trainer in Seattle. Transplants from other states and other cheaper cities are already hit hard with the high-living cost in Seattle and personal training prices are not immune to higher prices. While there are personal trainers offering introductory rates from $29 - $75 per session, once the trial period is over, you can expect prices to range from $80 - $200 per session. If you add in the processing fees, first and last month fees, and credit card transaction fees, the cost can climb even higher.
It is important when shopping for a new personal trainer that you know exactly what you are paying and signing up for. Is it a big corporation like Equinox or Lifetime Fitness that will lock you into a monthly subscription that you have to cancel "in-person" and still pay a percentage of the total yearly cost to break the contract early, or, an independent personal trainer that offers month-to-month packages without extra fees or agreements. Many larger gyms protect their bottom line by trapping clients into long-term contracts that are very difficult if not impossible to break without losing a lot of money.
Finding the sweet spot when searching for a personal trainer
Convenience, experience, contract terms, and equipment should be high priorities when initially searching for a new personal trainer in Seattle. Amenities like parking, workout towels, bathroom/shower, climate control, water access fall into the convenience category. Contract length, associated sign-up fees, gym membership fees, credit card transaction fees, would fall into the contract terms category. Trainer certification, years of experience, specialty, and continuing education fall into the "experience" category. And finally, the equipment that a trainer has access to, either in a gym or a in-home/travel personal trainer, they should have a wide variety of resistance based equipment that will allow you to continuing making progress indefinitely.
Finding cheaper alternatives in personal training usually comes with some compromise in all 4 categories above. While you can find convenience in finding someone to come to your home and train you, unless you have a $10,000 home gym, you will find yourself doing the same exercises and might find the personal training lack luster and uninspired. On the other end, you can go all in at a facility like Lifetime, Henry's, or Equinox and spend $200 monthly on the gym membership, have access to all the amenities, but be hit with high prices and the same tier trainer you would have come to your home.
The sweet spot to search for in personal training is finding an independent small business with many years of experience, success stories, and personally fits your needs as a client and human. Ideally the personal training studio would have no long-term contracts, no fees of any kind, experienced and inspired personal trainers, and all the aforementioned amenities in this post. While Eastlake Performance might not have the red light sauna or Olympic size swimming pool, we also do not have the $50,000 monthly rent that forces us to charge clients high prices and lock you into a long-term contract. We only do month to month subscriptions, and don't charge any fees of any kind. Our personal training clients are only responsible for paying their monthly training subscription and are welcome to cancel at any time without explanation.
